If the NHS is “the envy of the world”, why is no other country following the lead?
And please stop comparing the UK with USA, there are other countries with much better and more efficient systems than both of the above.
Wake up!

  1. Hear Hear. We are so arrogant when it comes to copying treatment offered abroad.

I live near a hospital that calls itself a “world renowned cancer centre”. Sadly, when you mention its name in major cancer hospitals in Europe, most doctors have to think hard to remember it.

When I had cancer this hospital’s solution to my massive problems with side effects from hormonal drugs was, “do you want to come off the drugs?” NO. I wanted the benefits those drugs were supposed to give me – so I trotted over to France.

No nonsense there – in one afternoon my side effects were examined, tested, looked at, discussed, and I was given prescriptions for creams etc. that cleared up the problems within a week. All for no charge because I somehow was classed as being a EU citizen so ‘honorary French’.

So I came back to UK, told the hospital here – whose response was “we are not interested”.
I was so furious I set up a website http://www.after-cancer.com, telling fellow patients what hospitals in Europe can offer.

The NHS still seems to think we are at war with the French. It is time they woke up and copied what the Europeans are doing for cancer patients.
